HITCH
Hitch is a hard red winter variety WestBred licensed to AGSECO in 2008. Hitch features medium-short plant height, excellent straw strength, and terrific yield potential. This variety offers very good levels of resistance to leaf rust, stripe rust, and stem rust. Hitch is medium-late in maturity and holds winter dormancy very well, making it an excellent variety selection for northeast Colorado, all of Nebraska, and the northern 1/2 of Kansas. While its performance in southern Kansas has been fantastic, we expect that its maturity will limit the adoption of Hitch in this region.

SMOKY HILL
Smoky Hill is a hard red winter variety WestBred distributed by AGSECO. Smoky Hill is resistant to stripe rust and leaf rust, and moderately resistant to tan spot and stem rust. It is best adapted to areas north of I-70 in Kansas, all of Nebraska, all of South Dakota and NE Colorado. Its excellent yield potential and disease resistance make it one of the top variety selections in its area of adaptation. Smoky Hill’s performance south of I-70 in Kansas has been very good but its relatively late maturity will limit its utilization.

WB-STOUT - NEW!
WB-Stout is a hard red winter wheat WestBred licensed to AGSECO. 2010 marks the introduction of WB-Stout to farmers across the High Plains. It is broadly adapted east to west in Kansas, where its performance has been outstanding. AGSECO is particularly excited about WB-Stout’s performance in the west. It offers an excellent package of disease resistance along with outstanding yield potential. In eastern Kansas, in years in which excessive rainfall occurs at or near harvest, test weights may become an issue.

PROTECTION
This hard red winter wheat variety was developed by Colorado State University and licensed exclusively to AGSECO. It is the first CLEARFIELD® variety with Jagger in its pedigree. Like Jagger, Protection does not have a good level of resistance to leaf rust, but will often escape damage due to its early maturity. Protection is moderately resistant to soil borne mosaic and intermediately tolerant to acidic soils, making it the only CLEARFIELD® variety (to date) that has some adaptation to central Kansas and Oklahoma. Protection offers good drought tolerance and excellent grazing potential.

BEYOND® CROP PRODUCTION SYSTEM
AGSECO and BASF have teamed-up to bring the CLEARFIELD® Production System to wheat farmers in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Nebraska. This system combines superior genetics, such as the variety Protection, with excellent weed control through Beyond™ herbicide.
This combination of AGSECO wheat varieties and BASF technology provides wheat farmers another management tool in their efforts to maximize grain yields and profit.
Beyond herbicide will control or suppress a broad spectrum of weeds, many of which have been previously uncontrollable in wheat production. Difficult weeds such as:
- jointed goatgrass
- cheatgrass
- downy brome
- hairy chess
- feral rye
- volunteer cereals
- Italian ryegrass
CLEARFIELD® wheat varieties are developed using conventional methods and there are no marketing or export restrictions attached to these varieties.
AGSECO is currently evaluating many new CLEARFIELD® wheat lines and expects to have widely adapted varieties in the near future. |
